Protecting your children on the Internet

what can I do?

There are a number of ways that you can make your internet connection safer for your children.

  • Talk to your kids; let them know about the dangers of chat rooms and some web sites.

  • Keep your computer in a public area. Try not having a computer in your child’s bedroom so you can keep an eye on what they are doing.

  • Supervise your children whilst they are online. Sitting with or near your children make them less likely to visit adult sites and chat rooms.

  • Check your browser history, Internet Explorer has a small button on the toolbar which looks like a tiny clock with a green arrow over the top. By clicking on it you can see up to 1 month of websites that have been visited by your browser.

  • Keep your software up to date; Check the links below for Internet Filtering programs.

Always remember that you are the best internet protection that your child can have. No filtering program is foolproof or 100% accurate. Educate your children on the dangers of the internet, especially stranger danger in chat rooms.
